Physics question!!!!!?

Ok so I know I definatly want to be a physicist but there's so many different fields that I'm lost on where to go next. I wanted to be a theoretical physicist cuz I like to think and imagine but I want to be a experimental physicist too cuz I want to test the theories and try to make them real! So here's my question. Is there a way that I could develop my theories and do experiments and find amazing discoveries?is that what those two physicist do? If not, what do they do?
