Do you think the book The Giver is weird because of it Utopian and civilzation?

It is a dire warning of things to come. Check out Ayn Rand's "Anthem" or George Orwell's "1985" or Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World". If you want animals, look into Orwell's "Animal Farm" if you haven't already. The point is that they are novels of fair warning. They hold significant importance and when you start to look around and realize the world YOU live in is beginning to look a lot like the Giver or any of these dystopian novels, you'll understand why reading it was so important. I'm sorry you hated it but I'm glad you've read it.
